If the memory stick is large enough, I think it should work.

    So to clarify, this is:
    -Better than HD Loader
-Loads a patched backed up game on DVD+RW without the need to swap disks

Does this work on a slim? I have 1 slim and 2 fats. Can anybody clarify what it does if I am wrong above.

    Hi.

    I have a v13 slim ps2 with a broken laser.

Does this now mean I can load games directly from USB stick or a hard drive_.

Please could someone point me at a beginners tutorial to do this.

    Thanks,

    Nick

The tutorials are posted here on fmcb, but you first need a way to install it.
In your case with a broken laser, there is no way.
The only way for you is too get someone to install to mc for you.

Then once installed to mc, you can boot from a USB drive using USbadvance or you can get a hddcombo and run games from a IDE hdd (better compatibility)

You do realize you can get a PS2 laser pretty cheap anymore for V13

    Depending what laser you need.

Thanks for the help. Am I correct in assuming that I would have to purchase the retail AR Max EVO disc in order to install to mc on my mates unmodded machine? Or is there a way to use a backup copy of AR Max EVO disc on his machine.

    Thanks again.

There is no way of course to use a backup copy of Ar MAx Evo on an unmodded PS2

So yes you would need to purchase the Armax Evo with media player
to be able to install fmcb 1.7 on the mc.

you would then do the Multi-Install of fmcb so it would work on your PS2.

Unfortunately I have no colleagues with a chipped PS2. My PS2 is lying dead since I burnt the laser trying to install a modchip. The modchip got uninstalled and stamped on in anger!

Here's a long shot since youve been so helpful so far. If I were to post you my memory card????? with return postage paid of course

Another question. If I use my spare 60gb USB hard drive instead of buying the hddcombo what disadvantages are there?

    Yet another question sorry:

quote "Launch the Free MC Boot v1.2c.elf from a USB stick, or from your memcard,
and your good to go. "
Therefore, can I not install FMCB from my pc to a USB stick without having to touch the MC?
Apologies if this is a dumb question and I am missing something fundamental.
    Cheers, Nick.

Yes I could install it for you. I have done quite a few for people.

Basically because the USB speed of the PS2 is 1.1, not as many games are compatible with UsbAdvance as they are with Hdloader on an IDE hdd.

No that won't work, because your mc cannot be connected to the pc.
fmcb must be installed to mc, not copied.

Only the memor32 card can do that. Link

That is why on the PS2, a method of being able to see the USB drive is needed.

My only concern is that my console is a european model.

Quote: (Free McBoot MUST be installed to a Memory Card and can not be copied off another. A copy will only work on the MC it was installed on.
Cross Region installations will not work! This means installing with a console from one region will not work on another console from a different region.)

Does this mean you wont be able to do my card as your machine is probably NTSC?

If however you believe it will work, please send me your address to which I can post the card.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Nick

There is hd combo , hd connect and I forget the other adaptor to connect an IDE hdd to a V13
There is a couple pictures in this site.

You might almost be better to find a FAT PS2 with Network Adaptor.

Reliable guys on this page sometimes have one for sale.

    Hi Again.

Sent my card off for software loading.

Ill start with the usb stick or usb drive method as I have these to hand. My kids only play a handful of games , so if I can find a few which work Ill be fine.

Do you have a list of usb compatible games?

Are only certain USB sticks and drives compatible?

Do I need to format and load some software to my USB stick before copying the game onto it? Does the game need any modification before I copy it onto the USB stick?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me.

    Nick.

Ok thats good. I hope you asked them to install usbadvance.elf to your mc for you.
That way you will have it on there and in the Sony Browser to choose from.

The first few links in this post should help you out on formatting your USB drive and installing games to it.
