well, the subject pretty much says it all. I'd like to keep the high quality avi intact and simply burn it to a SVCD that will be readable in any vcd/svcd/dvd reader/player. can this be done without first having to convert to mpeg-2 and still keep the filesize low enough to fit a single vcd? HELP! proudhawk (e-mail me at proudhawk@pretorian.ath.cx)
Maintaining 'quality' depends on the quality of the avis you are working with. SVCD specifies 480x480 video at 2.6Mbps, so that's all you have to work with. Anyway, I hear that Nero's encoder sucks. So if I were you, I would use tmpgenc to encode a short section of the avi to mpeg2 (using the svcd template) and throw that into Nero. See if the result is acceptable to you, before you go all the way.
