Can someone help me on installing direct x 9.0, whenever i try installing it it says that a certain cabinet file cannot be trusted and then it says download failed. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem and install it so i can play age of empires 3 and other games that need direct x 9.0. Thank you in advance

Which DX version are you using right now? Click on Start, Run, type DXDIAG, and press enter. This brings up the DX diagnostics. Check through them to see if you have any problems before proceeding any further or trying to update.

According to my help files you can not just uninstall DX and reinstall it. So I believe it a good idea to make sure your starting point is good. I suspect that trying to reload your current version should correct any corrupt entries.

Now, where is your new DX version coming from? Most new games that require the latest DX version often have the files right on the disk. Tomb Raider Legend has 9.0c right on the disk (for example). If you downloaded your version MAYBE the download is bad. Try another download site. Find a version on disk if you can - less likely to be corrupt.

Try installing with a fresh copy of DX. If it STILL does not work, you have exceeded my knowledge on the matter. Good luck.

Yah - If your running windows, just uninstall everything to do with Direct X on your computer, go to http://www.windowsupdate.com, and download the latest version.

I got a similar message before and it had to do with my Hard Drive going bad. That is a possibility that can cause a cabinet file to be corrupt.

Another possibilty is that you were multitasking with some resource heavy software on a fragmented Hard Drive while downloading the DirectX. Try downloading it again.
