I just got my xbox going from a new mod and I have some brand new games. I wanted to back them up on the hard drive. So no problem copying to the hard drive. But when I went to play them from it. Most would play until a certain point and then a balck screen with dirty disk error! Does anyone know what is going on or what is happening. Games work good playing in the dvd drive. The x3 w/ control panel. 160gig
Thanks, its really making me upset please help!

Well the most likely cause is two fold. One what condition was the Original Disc in when you riped it? Two the XISO is a bit different to the FATX File Format on the HDD. In so far as there in no limit on howlong Filename can be when they are on the Disc. However IIRC a Filename can only be up to Fourty-Two Characters long.

I'm not sure how it works but, try reriping your Game with the latest version 'DVD2XBOX' or just use a Program like Quixx! to rip/pack an .XISO and just burn that to a DVD±R\RW, then your Game should work...

My games are brand new, no scuffs or anything! I have tried reriping them, sometimes doing that, go play will last longer but after 30 minutes into the game it comes up again! And does it at the same spot when a replay them!

Again the most likely cause is the difference between Filenames on the DVD and HDD (e.g. UDFX and FATX),.

The DVD uses the UDFX File System. Which supports Long Filenames (i.e. 255+3 Characters),.

The HDD on the other hand uses FATX. This Filesystem only supports Filenames with 42+3 Characters.

    The difference is like:

    DVD: I'm_a_fully_working_link.xbe
    HDD: I'm_a_fully_working_.xbe

As you can see the HDD is not a fully working 'link'. Which the Program expects to 'see'. The only way I was able to get around this Problem (and IIRC it was Harry Potter and the Prisioner of Azkaban),. Was to eventually burn it as a DVD-5.

I played it, now it's catching dust somewhere! But, I think newer ripers like DVD2XBOX (v.0.7.0), can correct these borken links so that you can then be able to play 'em on the HDD. If not your going to have to burn a stright rip from your original (not the HDD!!) Game Disc and then burn that to a blank Media...

I went and cleaned the cache and right now I'm playing games with no problems so far! I just have to hope that it doesn't do it toward the end! Do you think that if it happens that it will happen in the first 30 minutes into the game or what! So far with one games I have been 2 hours into Star Wars with no problems! Thanks
