Simple question here... why does everyone prefer USB keyboard/mouse? Is there some disadvantage to PS/2 ports that I don't see? They free up USB ports and use less CPU clocks- is there a functionality change when you use a PS/2 adapter with peripherals?

I have an MX700 logitech mouse, I have this because it is wireless & it feels just right when I use it. You cannot get it in PS/2 connector. My key board is a PS/2, this is because sometimes, with a USB keyboard, you are unable to get into the BIOS. So I have the standard keyboard. I can get into the BIOS everytime.

Good old ps/2 works very nicely; I have a 4 port kvm switch that I hook up Customer computers to (I bet you do the same thing, DDP??) and works nicely. You can always buy a ps/2 to usb adapter if needed. One advantage to USB is that it's hot-swappable; you can plug it in, unplug, plug it in without a shutdown. Also, ps/2 is cheaper. On a personal side, I like my wirelss kb/mouse but that requires a usb connection too for the cordless desktop receiver.

Starbuck, good thing you didn't bet as you would have lost as i don't have 1 of those kvm tho did see 1 looking online with staples looking for a monitor switch box. i tell my customers i just need the tower/desktop, no cable tho sometimes need the software. i have 3 types of mice to use, an at keyboard with a ps2 adapter i made & an old 15" svga monitor.

ddp, If I was a betting Man, I would have bet you had at least a 2 port Belkin hooked up to mouse/kb/crt!! I don't know how you work without it! I'm impressed with that ps/2 adapter you made!!

ddp, you always impress me. And, now I know why you don't have a kvm 2 port or 4 port....it's because you fix the darn computers so fast you don't need one!!!

    later, dude.
