Well, actually your DS does not have to be flashed, it can just use a passkey2/passme2 device. Search the forum for numerous threads on these.

As for disadvantages if you do flash it. You currently lose the abilty to change the backlight brightness (though this is being worked on), and I assume it voids your warrenty (if you have any).

    ok gotcha,

whats the difference though between a passme and a flash? i want the least bit of things sticking out of my ds lite..isnt a passme huge?

also lets say i do a flash now, and later on they come out with a fix for the screen brightness...then will i be able to reflash it to the newer firmware (which will allow me to use the backlight settings)

    ?

I wouldn't say the passme is huge, but yes it is another thing that will stick out (which is why i flashed my DS).

Yes you will be able to flash your DS again when a FlashMe with brightness control is released.

The only difference between PassMe and FlashMe is that one is hardware, and slots into the DS port (the Passme) and the other is software (FlashMe) which means one less thing to carry around with you.

flashing your ds is worth it.
i have a nds with passkey2 and m3, and flashme runs perfect on my ds.
you don't need any big ass passkey (well paskey isn't THAT big but it doesn't fit in your pocket when its inside your ds)

i suggest you flash it =) the booting also feels incredibly fast cause the annoying health and safety screen being gone.

with a ds lite you need to flash your passkey first
