According to Dvd Decrypter the "disc is not empty". the media is tdk dvd recordable dvd+r 16x. I opened the disc in nero and according to nero the session is closed. these are discs right out of the package and it is saying the same thing for all of these discs. Sorry if this is repost i searched the forums for about an hr and did not see any similar problems
Open Decrypter and go into the Tools tab, then drive then check for firmware updates. Your burner may not be recognizing the media needs its firmware updated.
This is the second type post I have read in the last 2 days with the same type problem. I hope we aren't running into a blank disc manufacturing problem. The other post stated discs showing I think 44mb of usage straight out of the pack. I think they were Ritek. Download DVDINFOPRO and check the blanks with that and see what it says. http://www.dvdinfopro.com. Keep us informed. Jerry
Thanks for your quick replies and I was able to update myfirmware and I checked the media on dvdinfopro, unfortunately neither seemed to fix the problem. Dvdinfo pro isnt able to detect the brand or writeable speed, but tells me safe burning speeds. Also tells me the media is blank. I have a TOSHIBA ODD-DVD SD-R6252, maybe there are problems with this specific burner? I am able to rip the movies to my computer just fine through dvd decrypter, then view it in dvd shrink, the whole movie without problems, then when i go to back it up it it claims on dvd decrypter that the disc is still not empty. I am also not trying to overburn the dvd b/c i am reauthoring without all the menus and langs etc.
also when i change modes from iso write where it says disc is not empty, to iso read it changes and says the disc is empty??? Not making too much sense
Have you been able to burn with TDK disks in the past? Is there anyway you can try the disks on someone elses burner so you can rule out the media as the problem, or get some other brand of media to try?Since you say you are getting the same message in Nero then I doubt it is the program. Is this the only movie you are having a problem with using these disks, or is it all the files you try to burn?
other than the obvious firmware being an issue...i would definitely THINK it's the disc~ TDK DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.M01 16x NOT good at ALL~!! i despise CMC MAG manufactured discs and i personally don't even like TDK's OWN discs... i have 6 different burners and none of them like TDK discs, i would suggest different media as #1 priority for your issues...Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim would be my recommendations... good luck~
I just checked your burner model specs and it is a +R burner only. If your blanks are by chance -R that is the problem. Jerry
Alright,so i just returned the discs and could only get an in store credit. I stayed far away from tdk, but the only brands they had at frys were TDK, Great Quality(im sure...), Maxell, Memorex, LG, and some Fugifilm so i just grabbed the fujis for the hell of it. No Verbatims and of course taiyos. The fujis worked, but the sound was a little off on some chapters sounded slow and a little bit echoed, weird. I guess I will check around for some genuine Taiyos, those seem to be the best on everyones list. Thanks for all the help guys.
aside from the obvious CMC references in this thread, someone tell me if i'm talking rubbish, but as far as i can tell, this drive can only write to dvd's at 4x max - so sounds like that's why it's complaining about 16x discs
But creaky, one of my drives is a Ricoh MP5240A which is a 4X, +R drive .. I have no problem writing 4X to the +R 16X Verbatim discs ... of course we are talking Verbatim here as opposed to TDK
I agree catfreak, my NEC only writes at 4x but recognizes Verb 16x, but then it likes that brand. It may be firmware also ran across an old thread that gives a link for this drive. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/117805
cool, i just thought i'd throw it in, in case. my Sony happily uses 16x discs but i wasn't sure about this Toshiba drive or it's firmware...
