i've just finished putting a secondary sata hard drive into my computer,, after filling my main hard drive,, i formatted the drive in disc management and it was visible on my computer.. i transfer'd a couple of files onto the new hard drive fine, after a reboot of the computer windows is now doing a disk check on the new hard drive and it's taking forever... must have been going for bout 45mins now,, is this normal?

It depends on how large the drive is. I have had my 400gb ide hard drive take over an hour but it was full of data.

Hopefully by now everything is OK. As jony218 says, the initial scan of a new disk--especially a large one--can take quite some time.
