hey.. i was messing around with my display settings earlier and i i think i have chose some settings that are not compatable with my moniter because my screen has gone black and it wont change back. i think you can fix it by deleting some regitary files but i dont know which.. please could someone help me with this i have to use my computer badly for work
The only thing I can think of is that you changed the Hz setting... boot into safemode (reboot, press f8 several times during the boot process), and see if you can undo whatever you did.
i tried that but 'sfae mode'has its own display settings.. there all set to the lowest, and if i change somehting there then it doesn't seem to affect the normal run mode... i cant find an answer to this anywhere i dont understand :S.. my uncle came to my house a while ago to fix a problem with my graphics card while he was testing settings he accidently did what i have done.. but he restarted it in safe mode then used 'regedit' in the run box and deleted a file and it booted normally... but i dont have a clue what to look for (
Can you borrow a monitor from a friend, one that may have a higher resolution? Just a suggestion. If you can get to display settings, be sure to select hide modes this monitor cannot display.
Back in the day, it was easy to fix that issue...by booting to safe mode or DOS, and changing the driver init line in System.ini. However, codydog is onto your solution. You'll need another monitor, in which you plug into your system, and then change the settings. Or, if you should happen to have another video card, remove your first one..and set in the new one. It will automatically start with Windows under 800x600 mode.
