I am having a hard time getting digital audio output (ac3). Using ffdshow with default settings, I can get stereo analog output. If I then enable dolby digital, and set the output from 16 bit to ac3, I get digital. Great!!! However, with these settings, if I try to watch a video with only analog 2ch stereo, I get no sound. I then have to switch ffdshow to output 16 bit, thus loosing digital output for movies with digital 5.1. Any ideas?? The two movies I am using as an example are Blackhawk Down and A Christmas Carol (1953 version) both ripped from DVD and then converted to avi with DIVX convert. The audio for both is MP3.
Well if the audio for Both AVI"s is MP3 then it is in Stereo so you can"t make a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio From it...Well you can But it won"t be True surround sound...Also all Audio is Digital when it is on your PC no matter what Format be it MP3 or AC3 or Wav ect and useing the SPDIF Output on your PC (If it has one) you can output it to other devices as Digital... If you are Trying to Play back DVD/Mpeg-2/Vob or AVI files with Dolby 5.1 audio and you want Dolby 5.1 audio Blayback on your Surround sound Speakers then install a good Dolby AC3 Filter Like this One and use it over FFDshow.... http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/ Cheers
