Hi this may be a stupid question so apologies in advance. is it possible to create either chapters or track marks on a divx file when you copy it to a cd. i ask this so that its easy to locate a point in a movie easily?? i dont want to convert the divx file to dvd? cheers
According to the DivX labs site the DivX format does indeed support chapters. However you would need to do it before copying to CD, using I guess fuse and some kind of xml chapter file. Perhaps there is some more info on the DivX site on their chapter format? Because I have no idea how it works and it doesn't look like their apps supports importing other chapter formats. For the chapters to actually work most standalones probably need a firmware update. On the PC side of things, the latest DivX player should work. Also perhaps Haali's avi splitter? If you are willing to use a different container, ogm, mkv and mp4 support chapters.
I'm not understanding. Are you planning to record a 'DivX with chapters' AVI on a DVD or to convert the DivX to a DVD MPEG-2 movie and THEN to author some chapters in the movie? This because this 'chapters' stuff applied to DVD movies is usually a thing made on 'authoring' (see this nice page http://home.hetnet.nl/~erikvullings/). If your DVD is able to read DivX movies recorded e.g. on a data CD-R, it's anoher issue, but you didn't specify it when you wrote ^ | --- what did you mean with this?
sorry for the confusion. i know that when converting a divx to dvd format you can create chapters as i've done this with Nero. what i wanted to know is that when you burn the divx file to cd so that you can watch the film in a standalone dvd player that can play MPeg4 can you create some sort of chapters so that its easy to locate points in the film? my player doesnt have a time search function so otherwise its a case of forwarding till i reach a point? hope this helps.
