    Hi, hope some can help.

I have no clue how DIVX works but have a cd i am desperate to play but don't have a clue what i need to play it on my pc.

Can someone tell me if there is something i can download just to view it the cd? The file has .avi after it.

The cd wont play on Windows Media, it just sounds like it's whirling round and then freezes up everything:-(

I am very naive at this (would love to just play the cd on my dvd player....but think i may be trying to run before i can walk) so simple answers please. *lol

    Thanks in advance

Get gspot that will tell you what codecs you need and if you have them installed on your computer!

alternatively if u dont wish to download the gspot program (which i do recommend u do)
jus right click the avi file and select properties and go to the summary of the file and see wat codec was used to encode the film
if it is divx then download the divx5.03 bundle
    http://www.divx.com/divx/

if the file is encoded with xvid then use the xvid codec

    http://www.softnews.ro/public/scripts/downloadhero/11-2-2-19/

    once installed
these codecs will execute every time you try and play the film
and decode the film so it can be watched
