I recently aquired an avi Divx file. I can open it with the new DivX player and the total runtime is supposed to be about 30 minutes. However, it only plays for 4 or 5 seconds, then stops and displays the DivX logo as if it has finished. I have no idea whats going on. Can anyone help? And thanks.
Have you tried playing the video in other players? Try running the video through Gspot. This may be a long shot but maybe you dont have the right codecs, which gspot can help you find out. Note: if you get a 4CC code of '0', then the movie is most likely fake. Also if you dont have it already, download virtualdubmod and load the video in, get into tbe video menu and click on scan video stream for errors.
Thanks for the info. I used GSpot to open the file and it said that I have the right codecs for playing it, but it also said there was a bad chunk in the A/V frame data which I suppose is what made it stop after a few seconds. Should I just get rid of the file now, or can it be fixed?
Divxrepair: http://divxrepair.sourceforge.net/ Ive heard it will automatically eliminate bad frames. Im not sure though since ive never really used it. You should make a copy of the file first just in case any problems occur. Avifixed: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifix.html Again make a copy of the file before using this in case of any problems. Good Luck
I downloaded both of the fixing programs. The DivX Repair did nothing to the files, but the AVI Fix found a lot of bad frames. It played all the way through, but after eliminating all the bad frames, the file was taken down from 44 minutes, to 1 minute 30 sec. so I fugure it's not worth having the file. I'll try to get a different copy. Thanks for all the help though. I just have a feeling that most movies off Kazaa will do the same thing.
That's too bad, man. Try checking out the file sharing applications board for some other P2P applications other that Kazaa. Here's a tutorial for Emule: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/20686 Good Luck.
