divx to avi using divx author

    Hey I am trying to edit a bunch of xvid .avi files using divx author and then exporting them as an .avi however, divx author only lets you export them as .divx video files. Can anyone help? Or suggest another editing program that may work better?

    Haven't read up on the Divx Ultra standard but it may
    be that some stand-alones won't look for menus etc.
    without the .divx extension. AviAddXSubs, as example,
    outputs .avi with selectable subtitles with a
    .divx extension.
