I have some strange problem, when I convert DivX file (NTSC, 23.976 fps) to VCD and DVD. The problem is, that after converting (I use TMPGEncoder) a file to MPEG-1 for VCD, the picture in the resulting moovie is not smooth enough, it is visible more especially to the end of th file. It looks like some frames are getting lost. And when I encode to MPEG-2 for DVD, this effect is visible in the hole moovie. What can it be, how to solve a problem?
are you sure the divx file you have uses ntscfilm framerate, setting it to the wrong system can result in jerkiness but then again theres always a bit of pixelation with divx especially when the credits are rolling across the screen and high motion scenes, nothing can be done about that if thats what your talking about (comes with the compression used in divx)
I'm shure about framerate! The point is, that the motion pictures are seen well with DivX file. When I converted it to MPEG-1 for VCD, I see good picture at the begining of the file, but approaching the middle of the moovie the picture become slightly jumping, not as smooth as in the source AVI file -- not to jumping, but noticable and very unpleasant for eyes.
ok, well what quality setting are you using with tmpge?? high quality should be suffient (you could use highest quality but it doesnt look any different IMO, and it takes double the time as well) other than that theres not much else i can suggest if you say the source plays fine, but keep in mind not matter what your loseing quality everytime you re-encode a file (even divx/xvid to dvd or svcd there is still quality loss) it cant be helped, no matter what you do _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Young man......Young man......You Just Got Knocked the Fucked Out[/small]
OK, that helped, I encode it i highest quality and it was much better. Still have the following problem: what frame size should I set for DivX AVI with frame size704x288 when encoding to VCD? I tried Wizard's 352x240, but the resulting picture has terrible quality. I tried 720x480, like for DVD, the result is much better, but when I did the VCD disk with VCDEasy, the program abused about non standard MPEG file, and when I burned it, the resulting picture was slightly stretched vertically on the TV, which was not seen, when I saw the reencoded file on the computer. And should I reencode NTSC 23.976 to 29 fps, can it give better result?
ok in aspect ratio set it to 16:9 display, and in video arrange method set it to full screen keep aspect ratio, seeing your source is widescreen this will sort out any problems if your trying to encode this resolution(dvd resolution) to vcd this will sort out all ur stretch problems u r using tmpge im guessing if u have a t.v that can support both ntsc and pal(ntsc in this case), your coversion will look brilliant with resolution like that(704x288), the conversion should look almost lossless, if converting to vcd(but dont fret, if you have a pal only t.v it will still come out great, just not as great if you had a ntsc or multi tv) your 1 of the lucky 1's with a file that will look like a dvd quality movie (well almost, people not looking for quality differance will mistake it for dvd quality) the highest divx/xvid resolution i have worked with is 532x320, so your source seems to be a very good 1, and with the setting ive just given you the end result(the vcd) should and will be great if you follow me correctly and the end result will be an absolute keeper. i envy your divx/xvid resolution, most dont come as crisp as your resolution, but remember, if it looks wide its 16:9 display, if it looks square it 4:3display. and always (and i do mean always, set it to full screen keep aspect ratio) this will ensure you lose none of the picture a 16:9 conversion should come out looking like a dvd on a non-wide screen t.v, a 4:3 conversion should look full screen on any t.v if your using tmpge these settings will work for a perfect vcd(i promise u) i have made plenty of xvid/divx vcds, with the highest quality i can get my hands on,(which is nothing next to the quality you have) and have come out looking fucken awesome, so you wont have any problems with your quality so in conclution, if your source looks wide in mplayer, it's wide screen so set to 16:9 display in tmpge, but if your source looks sqaure in tmpge set it to 4:3 display, and always set ur video arrange method to full screen keep aspect ratio if you dont know if your source is 16:9widescreen or 4:3letterbox, i suggest you download a program called, 'g-spot codec information', this will tell you all you need to know about your file(and probably alot more) cheers m8 any more problems and just gimme a bell
