Following the instructions on this site I have used GordianKnot to create a DivX file from a video file with Dolby Surround Sound. I chose all the options to keep the AC3 file and not process audio, thinking that I would get a DivX file with the original AC3 Dolby Digital surround sound in 5 channels. Playing the resulting file does not seem to give 5 channel output (my Dolby Digital decoder is not decoding anything during playback whereas it is with the original). Can anyone confirm whether I am doing something wrong or whether I am trying to do something impossible?

Maybe you downmixed the audio? Im not really sure...kind of pulling at straws.

Or maybe, you chose the wrong audio stream.

Thanks for your reply powerdup, but I followed the tutorial very closely and one of the things it specifically says is to ensure the option to downmix audio is off. I thought perhaps the problem was to do with the wrong AC3 stream, but I have checked and confirmed that the one I chose is in fact the DD 6 channel stream.

Anyone have anymore ideas? This is really driving me mad! :)

Just a random idea here, but is windows set to play 5.1 sound??

Go into Ctrl Panel, sounds and audio devices. -> under speaker settings click advanced, and then change your setup in there?
