    Folks,

I'm neither a newbie nor an expert. Had to reflash my dm500s after it went belly-up. Flash went fine and have the free channels ok. Problem is I can't connect to it using Filezilla or DCC using homeplugs even though I could always connect ok before. The homeplug connected to the router is fine (all lights working ok). The homeplug connected to the dm500 is only showing two lights (power & ethernet). I've done everything according to 'the manual' - set IP at 192.168.1.24, checked 'enable network' etc. I've changed cables and homeplugs and no change. I have however been able to connect to the dm if I connect the ethernet cable directly from dm to router and filezilla/dcc detect it ok at the expected ip (192.168.1.24).

    Doin my head in!!!

    Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks E45 and fintannl for your help. Did some speedreading from your links E45 - some great stuff there .. but not the answer to my problem.

Re fintannl suggestion, when I tick the dhcp box, the ip assigned is 10.0.0.97. When I enter this into DCC for the dm500 it still doesn't detect it. Also when I use the search option in dcc it only permits ips in the range 192.168.1.1 - 254. Filezilla also doesn't connect when I use 10.0.0.97.

Would there be any setting either on the router or on the box that I might have eff'ed up?

nedd to understand the difference between public and private addresses. absolutely incorrect that after you tick dhcp that your ip becomes 10.x.x.x which is a public address. address must be 192.168.x.x as it is internal to your router

Fintannl - The good news is that its sorted - the problem was a dodgy homeplug which obviously meant that the router and dm500 weren't talking. That explains why ticking the DHCP box only gave me defauly values (10.0.0.97 etc). Thanks for the usual great support.
