Hi guys, Ive set up 3 dreamboxes in my house, one in the kitchen one in the living room and one in the bedroom. I have a router in the study. The dreamboxes in the living room and kitchen work fine when i use the wireless ethernet adapters, However when i plug the bedroom dB on and connect it to a wireless adapter the living room one and the bedroom one keep freezing every 1-2 mins.
They are both 800s and the kitchen one is a 500.
When i look at the IP settings on the 2 800 DB's, they both have the same IP address, When i turn the dchp/dhcp (not sure how to spell it)off and change the IP manually then they dont work. Then when i turn it back on they both get the same number again and the freezing continues.

Anyone have any ideas on what i can do to solve this.

    Cheers

One box is your server. Assume this is one of your DM800s. The IP of this box must be fixed, ie DHCP must be unticked and IP set to whatever is appropriate for your router. The other two boxes from an IP point of view are irrelevant other than the router assigns them unique IPs on the network. So DHCP can be ticked or unticked on these two dreamboxes. the cline on the two client dreamboxes will be
C: 192.168.x.x user pass no (192.168.x.x is the server IP which must be static)
C: 192.168.x.x user1 pass1 no (192.168.x.x is the server IP which must be static)
    The server will be
    F: user pass 2 0 1 { 0:0:1 }
    F: user1 pass1 2 0 1 { 0:0:1 }
Piopat referenced MAC address issues with DM500 which could cause network clashes. Look at thread sharing on DM500s and see if the MAC addresses are clashing on your network. This will cause exactly the freezing you are currently having

Just to save you a bit of time please find below what Piopat had to say on this subject. So see if the info is relevant and if so send a big thanks to him for making the effort to post the information

hi gary and fint thanks again,it is a great buzz as you say . i was going back and checking trying to find the problem as i felt sure i had things setup ok(i had made a few mistakes ,that were easily fixed with help from you guys) i was reading a lot on various sites about possible reasons a share would not work, all i could come up with was an ip conflict. but that was not the case, i think it was on a check of the router to see if it was showing all connected devices that i saw the mac addresses were the same. but the numbers being shown did not say (mac address next to them) but i new what they were, that said i did not put 2 and 2 together and i went looking at other stuff. i was talking with a few guys on an other site and they advised all the things that you guys did, and one guy said did you check the mac addresses as if the are the same the boxes will never share. of course i knew they were the same but thought nothing of it till then. to check the mac addresses you can check through the router but i just used telnet, open dream control center, all being well you have a green line going from the pc on to the dreambox and up to the router. click on telnet to open it, and type in ifconfig and press enter the box details will be shown onscreen, a mac address looks like (example) 00:01:02:bb:c1:11 if you only have 2 boxes you only need to change one mac address, so write down the mac address of one box(i will assume like me you have a conflict,2 boxes with same mac address) now open notepad on your computer. i have vista so i clicked the windows button and note pad is on the left of the screen. type in(all in one line) ifconfig eth0 down; ifconfig hw ether 00:01:02:bb:c1:12; ifconfig eth0 up; . note the mac address in the line will be your mac address, also see i changed the last digit from 1 to 2, so when changing your mac address simply change the last digit like i did. click on save ,save the file, and give it a name, the name will be init , the program will try and give it an extension like init.txt(you dont want that) so for name simply type this "init" and save. my init file was saved to my documents. now open dream control center, login to the box which mac address you want to change, network ok etc, click on ftp, on the right side of the ftp screen browse your computer for the init file, say c: documents, the file "init" should be displayed on the right side of the ftp screen. now go to the left side of the ftp screen and double click on var, then double click on etc, ok now go back over to the right side of the ftp screen where the init file is, click on it once to highlight it, now click on the little arrow that points to the left, your init file is now in the var/etc folder of your box. now click on the init file you just transfered and highlight it, now right click on it, open attributes and click on 775,save and exit, exit out of ftp and dcc, now reboot your box. you have now changed your mac address. there is also a tool you can get online to change the mac address. so i had a bit of luck really,a lot of good info from you guys ,if i had no patience i think i would have cracked so for any newbies take your time be patient and it will work in the end, by the way i have it working external also in a mates house. thanks again for all the help talk, soon guys.

Thanks for this. I found another way to solve it. I left the 2 downstairs boxes as wireless, however i have plugged the bedroom box directly into my router and it seems to have fixed the issue.
Now i just need to drill a hole in my wall and tidy up the wire. lol

Is there a way of changing the channel order on one box and then sending it to the other boxes via my net connection.
Dont like the way the channels dont have numbers on them and keep having to go in menu to find out what number it is.

    Anyway thanks agian for helping

using dreamboxedit you can set up to the channels the way you like and also in a consistent fashion for all boxes

    HI Fintannal,
Have to come back to this agaion, as now the ethernet connection hard wired does not work properly, still getting the freezing issue.
Going back to your response, you say the 1st box should have a fixed ip and the ip should be what ever is appropriate to my router. How do i know what this is.

Im not technical enough for this.

Any chance i can phone someone and they take me though what i have to do. Or if anyone lives in london/Essex any chance someone can come sort this out for me

its not all that technical. using your remote control can you identify what the IP of the box is. it should be under setup/network (communications, play with it until you find the right menu, it differs from box to box and image to image) using remote. On your server make sure dhcp is unticked. on the clients make sure that the IP is not the same as any of the other clients or of the server, ie. all three boxes must have different IP addresses. start with that. can you confirm this please

Hi, On my dream boxes, both the 800s have dhcp unticked. and the 500 has it ticked.
When you talk about server and clinet what do you mean.
I have given both the 800 different IP addresses.
    one is 192.168.2.17
    the other is 192.168.2.37

    User inerface is yes
    Use DHCp is no
    Netmask is 255.255.255.0
    use a gateway is yes
    Gateway is 192.168.2.1
    Primary dns is 192.168.2.1
    secondary dns is 0.0.0.0

I have disconnected the 500 one for the time being till i get these 2 working.

the server is the box with the sky card in it. it serves the clients which do not have a card in them. Firstly you need to identify the box with the card in it and the IP address of that box. this box must have DHCP DISABLED so its IP address is constant. Then the Cline on both clients must use the IP address of this server box. And thats it

talk to your provider. if you have no control over your network it is simply impossible to find help here
