I've been having problems with my NEC burner. Every time I burnt a DVD it would fail, but CDs were fine. Thinking this was a hardware thing, I bought a new DVD burner. I plugged it instead of the old burner, and now it constantly fails burning CDs and DVDs. I tried replacing the IDE connector (a different connector on the same cable) and Power cable from a different drive (DVD drive), but it didn't help either. I checked in windows to see if the DMA is on, and it is. Oh, I should probably also mention that a friend of mine renovated my computer a month ago - replacing the mother board, CPU and adding memory. Before he did that, the burner worked fine. What should I do?
