Windows XP SP2, DVD drive revert to PIO mode. Slow reading and riping (1x) DVD video, buffer at 100%, CPU at 99%

    Solution:
    edit registry ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess=1 (KB817472)
IDE ATA and ATAPI disks use PIO mode after multiple time-out or CRC errors occur

    and install hotfix
An IDE device runs in PIO mode instead of in DMA mode after you update the firmware for the device in Windows XP

    enjoy

Good information that lots of us know already, but there are a multitude of folks who don't.

Unfortunately, if this post/thread isn't pinned, it will soon become a member of the "pages of the past".
