After a year of perfect service from my DMR-E85H, it has started failing during the power on sequence. Here's what typically happens: - PLEASE WAIT msg - at least 60 seconds of the progression lights - BYE message - PLEASE WAIT message - another minute or two waiting - L3 message (that's fine. I use L3) - message on TV ERROR HAS OCCURED. PRESS ENTER (WHICH i DO) - BYE message - PLEASE WAIT message now, I sometimes get SELF CHECK message, after which unit operates ok until I power down. but, more often, I get PLEASE CHANGE THE DISC message, even though the DVD tray is empty. Should I be hauling the unit into a service centre? Thaks so much to anyone who can advise.
I may have overcome the problem after all. The Tech Rep at Panasonic's Call Centre was unable to help and said that taking the unit in to a repair centre looked like the only thing I could do. I'm not that close to one hence wasn't keen to do that. So, based on some of the other postings regarding the DMR-E85H, I thought I'd try upgrading the firmware, even though it did appear from those postings that the upgrade was aimed mostly at fixing TV GUIDE issues. I do not use the TV GUIDE service. After doing the upgrade, the unit returned to normal operations (at least, for now).
