I have somehow managed to get the Trojan DNS changer codec ,its a real pain.It actually quite a intelligent trojan also,it even stops me updating windows,my anti virus program and a few other applications.
Anybody got anyway I can clear this.
I am running Avast free anti virus on an XP platform.

I ve tried a few program that say they have cleared the trojan but its still there somewhere.

    Help appreciated all.

Download and run SuperAntiSpyware AND MalwareBytes, they both target DNS changer Trojans..

Downloaded both programs lastnight, superantispyware didnt work because the trojan kept blocking the update of the program.I downloaded Malwarebytes and Hooray it worked.

Thanks for that, and i have also updated all my other antispyware and virus programs now.Although i had AVG free edition when the trojan came onto my system.????

Thanks for that all sorted now.

Good deal, neilcolt, glad to hear that helped.

Now that the Trojan is gone, try to update SuperAntispyware and run it. Just to pick up anything that MBAM may have missed. They work well together…

If, by chance, you are still unable to update SAS then Download the latest free portable version to a thumb drive and run it from there. When it runs from memory the Trojans can’t stop it. Lol

As Hooter suggested you could run Ccleaner, it works well and is very safe to clean your reg with.

2 suggestions to keep the Trojans out – Avira Antivir, free and Threatfire, free

P.S. I don't like AVG, it's over-rated. Avira is better and has the credentials to prove it....

Thanks for that advice taken ,but it is strange when you go to a large site like download.com and there best download is AVG free download.I have proved its not 100% with a trojan like this.

    Thanks again.

It is probably because AVG is buying the “Hipe” LOL

Check here on page 8 and 9:
    http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report25.pdf

Avira is No.2 with G DATA at No.1 only .3% ahead but don’t have a Free Version.
    AVG is No. 15 :-(

The only drawback is; Avira has a pop up every time it updates. But, for a great AV, I can live with that…
