I have two computers attached to a router. They are both attached with an ethernet cord, CAT 5. The one computer works great, I am able to access the internet. The other was working fine, but all of a sudden it started giving me a DNS error when I use IE7. I installed firefox and it works fine, the problem is just with IE7. I have tried quite a few different options. I have flushed the DNS, deleted temp files and cookies, but nothing has seemed to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Just a couple of thoughts - Have you set a proxy in IE7 at all that needs clearing Have you tried resetting IE7 back to default. (Control panel - Internet options - Advanced tab - reset button) Also check that IE7 is not blocked in firewall
Hey Sparksman, After reading your post and mulling it over I keep coming back to the same question. If everything was working properly for a minute then what changed? Is it possible that an update was installed through Window's Update to your IE7? Are you maybe running a third party A/V software? Removing the update and uninstalling A/V then reinstalling could possibly help. If files were updated to IE then your A/V could be blocking it from accessing the internet. And if that's not the case I saw some things at a Microsoft discussion group about changing the URL to "localhost" instead of "<VS server name>". If your using virtual server. I'm posting the link in case you might want to check it out. http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...&pt=&catlist=&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us Maybe this will be of some use. There is also the option of downgrading to IE6. Or yeah troubleshoot back to when the problem began. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!
To SRH22 thanks for the great answer! I always use Firefox, but unfortunately one of the websites I use doesn't work with Java, it is written with Microsoft, so Firefox won't work. So can you fix that one for me smartass! And before you try to say that i shouldn't use that website, well it is my work website, so unless I decide to stop working and quit feeding my family, I don't see that happening. I suggest that you stick to the old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. People are on here to get help, not have some smartass try to be funny! So grow up! As for Lillith, thanks for the info. I am going to try it out and see f that is the problem. I have a feeling that you are right in that it has to do with an update. The only problem will be figuring out which one. Thanks for the help!
Hey Sparksman, Not sure if your problem has been corrected or not but I did happen across something today that made me remember your post. Was reading about internet connectivity when I saw this. I know you didn't mention what OS your using but man if this didn't sound like your experience. Guy said he was using Vista Business and it's halfway down the page about how he couldn't resolve DNS lookup. Check it out here http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums/viewtopic.php?t=2102 Disabling Ipv6 under network settings could be promising? Again just an idea maybe it helps!
