    Hey AD!

I am trying to do a repair install for Windows XP Pro with an install disk (NOT a recovery disk), and when looking at all the guides, it tells me to boot off the cd, then agree to the license agreement, and then they say the install should recognize Windows installed on X partition and press R to repair, but i do not get this screen. I am instead shown 4 separate partitions (its obvious which one Windows is on) and not an offer to do a recovery install, only a fresh one. If i try to proceed, it warns me about installing over a currently installed operating system. Anyone have any suggestions?

It's a Dell Vostro 1500, XP PRO SP2 or 3 currently installed (but viruses make it to where we cant log on).

ever heard the words "wasting your time" ?? wipe the system partition and start over.. you will not remove the malware with a "repair" install.

Yea, i would agree if it were my own computer, woulda done it days ago =P...i've told the owner of the comp that wiping it would be the most painless thing to do...not even being able to get on safe mode and not being able to see or use anything on the desktop is pretty much a lost cause. Thanks for the reply!

If anyone else has any other suggestions, feel free...i think i'll let the owner know that wiping is still the best option though.

Yup.. I had one last week with no safe mode and everything gone to pot.. the virus was winlogon.exe (clam-av running from a live linux cd found it) .. how do you get around that? It can't be replaced or overwritten or renamed because the "file is in use by a person or process".. I don't have a solution and just wiped it.

grab winkeyfinder 1.71 from off the net and run it to at least get the activation and install key before wiping.. I install sp3 and then crack it (google hard and you will find the big wpa secret) because I don't consider xp to be worth anything.. borg v5 is nice too XD
