do all cameras use docking stations to get the pictures into computer hard drive. i was wondering if you can just use a usb or firewire and attach it to computer without using the docking station. the reason is i want to be able to pack less stuff for trip?
what cameras if any allow using only cabels?

My Canon A70 just uses a USB cable to connect to the computer. The only drawback is that doing that does use up the batteries faster. I only have to pack the usb cable when on a trip.

For home use, I just got a flash card reader for the pc instead. With it all you do is pop the flash card out of the camera, insert it in the reader, and copy the files to the pc using windows explorer. The flash reader shows up as another disk drive.

You can get cameras that use CF and SD and all those fancy micro media formats (i.e., the Canon i use at work uses CF cards).
