    Hello,
I have been "backing up" my movie collection using a brand new pc w/ burner etc... Using Sony dvd-r. They play just fine in my playstation 2 and other players. I was going to purchase a portable dvd player and took one of my back ups to the store. Tried 3 types of dvd players (all are supposedly dvd-r compatable according to best buy pros) and none of them played. My question is do portable dvd players play copied dvd's? I know that sounds stupid, but they didnt work.. I was looking a getting a 7inch polaroid or insignia for my 4 hour plane trips, nothing fancy. If you have had luck w/ these, let me know which portable players you use etc....thanks

My 4year old grandaughter has an Audiovox portable player and we give her backups of movies to use and they all play fine, not one problem except when she scratches them up again.

Same here -R format, because I do the grandaughters backups, and these seem to work the best.

well, thanks for the info....i dont know why they would work in 3 different dvd players (home style), then play them in 3 different travel (portable) dvd players and they dont work. I will keep looking into this i guess. I know that if i cant get them to work in a portable dvd player, then i guess im stuck sitting next to an old lady telling me how i remind her of her grandson and hear to whole life story on a plane, yipppeee!!! Thanks

i have a portable Sony 10.2 inch widescreen player...model number DVP-FX1021 that plays ALL my Taiyo Yuden dvd+r media booktyped to dvd-rom flawlessly~ i guess it really depends on if your portable "likes" the media you use in it...this SOny that i have ALSO plays TY dvd-r format with no problems too, but really dislikes lower grade media and will not play those, doesn't recognize disc.

I think kivory666 may have touched on a good point. What media is the backup in question burned on? If it is "suspect" media (Memorex, Princo, or house branded stuff) try taking in a backup on quality media (TY or Verb) and giving it a shot!

Not bad media, but I suppose dingus4u could try another media, however these should play.

yeah, i could try different media, but Sony is pretty good i believe. I just cant understand why it would work in most dvd players except 3 different portables. I am going to burn another on a dvd+RW to just see if it works w/ those....if not, then im at a lost!! Thanks for everything though.

Glad it all worked out for you, and now you won't have to listen to that old lady about her grandson, happy travelling and burning.
