Hi folks! I havent got a clue bout chipping, so here it goes. I want to chip my PS2. Here's what I got: - PS2 NTSC(50001) large-box(not slim) - TV that is NTSC / PAL / SECAM friendly Questions: 1)Will chipping allow me to play both PAL and NTSC versions of various games? 2)Will separate Memory Cards be required for PAL and NTSC versions of the same games(ie. Gran Turismo 4) 3)What is THE BEST chip that can be had? Are there DVD9 friendly chips already? Much much obliged. Thanks! haYto
Thats a V9 USA PS2 u have there. V9 has some points on the back of the mobo that's hard to solder on. u'll need to scrape off the copper on the points to secure the solder on it. 1)I think all mod chips in the market now support games from all regions. Be sure to read from the website u're buying from. 2)Separate mem cards wont be needed. I have saved PAL and NTSC games on the same mem card before, if i can remember correctly. 3)Most chips now support DVD9, but not many support burnt dual layer DVDs( DVD-RL ). In my opinion, these chips can be considered: DMS4 Matrix infinity Ghost 2 H20 Mars III MA502 DUO2GT Magic 5K NH9 all the best. P.S. I burnt the only ps2 v9 i had when i tried to mod it, so be careful.
you asked for the BEST chip, and that my friend hands down is the DMS4 Pro (get the SE version), the Matrix Infinity Green Dot is a close second. kc
Oh ya, my bad. basically the more expensive the chip is, the better it is. i usually take reference from divineo: DMS4 Matrix Infinity Ghost 02 These are the best chips. They cost more though, say USD40 and above for the first 2.
Not much really. The features are almost identical. As far as chip design, I'm sure KC can give you the specifics. Go with the DMS 4 SE Pro or the MI Green dot. RIP MI blue dot lol.
Finally found what I was looking for. The infamous David Berens said this: "There is no difference between the DMS4 Pro and the SE version exept the SE was made smaller and it can be used in v14's."
DavBere is one of the most respected modders on the net. He earned his rep. He modded my v.4 PS2 with a MI. I've learned alot from him, and KC too. If I know a decent amount about modchips, it's because I had good teachers. Anyway teammodders.com is a good place to start when getting your PS2 modded. The DMS 4 Pro SE is a great chip. Cheers!
The SE has quite a few better features.......... the PC board is smaller and the pin-out locations are better arranged for wire location, this way you have less crossing of wires, it also has better noise filtering, both of these features help with the sensitivity of the wire length and the wires crossing one another causing problems with booting. the Actel chip is now smaller to reduce chip height, this reduces pressure caused by the mobo shield which resulted in a BSOD. the serial flash encoding is vastly improved for a better ability to receive flash upgrades. not only do they flash faster they are far less problems with flashing hang ups or failures. the patching is supposed to be improved as well making the chip more stable but the non SE version is as stable a chip as there ever was. kc [bold]EDIT[/bold] the only changes for the V14 were the pin location, Q became C on a V12-14 not really a change to the chip....
there is also virtually zero ground "bounce" on the dms4 se as well which from personal experience is a plus. no decent grounding = no more psu as i well found out
