Two years ago I discovered bittorent and had my 2002 dell laptop on 24/7 for like 4 months (with the occasional reboot) and since then my computer doesn't respond as fast, crashes a lot more often and seems to be suffering from mental retardation.

I was thinking of buying a new laptop but I was wondering if they could operate 24/7 like most desktops. Any info much appreciated, also any info on why exactly leaving the computer on 24/7 hurts your computer would be helpful too.

just make sure laptop has adequate cooling, and make sure the power brick doesn't get too hot. mine at the moment is literally so hot you can't hold it so i've got it hung in front of a desk fan until i rig up something more suitable. don't think power brick will last long otherwise (it'll definitely cause a fire if i don't cool it)
