Having some troubles in reading some DVD-R and getting them reformatted due to unreadibility, I asked for help in some forums, and I obtained as answer "DVD-R do not need formatting".

It sounds quite strange to me... especially because my recorder just says "formatting...", and I think no media can be used without formatting... But those guys are "sure" of what they say! So, who's wrong? Do DVD-R need formatting?

No. DVD-Rs are already formatted during production, and you can only write on them once.
