I recently got a BenQ DW1655, my first DL burner. I got some DL media to try out with it. Details: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R-DL:RICOHJPN-D00-001] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [Not Available] Manufacturer Name : [Ricoh Co. Ltd.] Manufacturer ID : [RICOHJPN] Media Type ID : [D00] Product Revision : [001] Blank Disc Capacity : [4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [2.4x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I checked the Videohelp database but can find no mention of this media. Has anyone here used these or could they be dodgy. They were no cheap, €41 for 5 discs.
It's no wonder that they are cheap considering they are EMTEC disks. As for your disks, you are right there is no mention of EMTEC disks coding as that on videohelp but there are lots of other media makes that code as RICOHJPND00. So i think it is safe to assume that your disks are OK. However, when you next come to buy DL's...Buy Verbatim! There are still many flaws with DL's and therefore it is important to have good media... [bold]A few things to remeber:[/bold] 1- Install the latest firmware on your burner; as to avoid coasters. 2- Buy Verbatim DVD+R DL Media (optional but...) DVD-R DL are still causing issues since they are pretty new and not all drives support them, even with the latest firmware. 3- Do not burn at MAX speed. Burn at 2.4x! 4- If you are going to burn a DL .ISO(.mds) burn with DVD Decrypter(if you have it ) and/or Image Burn and load the .MDS not the .ISO The .MDS has the Layer Break information, and should help creating a smooth DL burn. 5- Don't multitask durning the burn, ensuring a smooth burn. 6- Follow the rest of the usuall burning precautions...
