I'm trying to FTP to my XBOX directly from mt PC using a RJ45 Crossover patch cable (cat5e). I keep timing out and I was wondering if this is the correct cable.

    Thanks

try another ftp program, ive had the time out issues in the past and they were resolved by using another FTP program...

An FTP program won't make you time out....The only reason you will time out is a problem with your connection or connecting to the wrong IP....Make sure you have your connections bridged if you have a wireless card installed on your PC......

I don't have a wireless card. I guess I've got the right cable, though?

I need to transfer a file to my XBox HDD from my PC. I was under the assumption that I could move the file using a crossover cable and an FTP program without installing the EvolutionX dash. Is that right?

Are you using the Windows firewall and do you have file sharing on?

what IP addresses are you using? are you making your PC's IP address as your default gateway? Did you enable PASV mode? So long as the first 3 octets of your IP addresses match and there are no IP address conflicts on your network it shouldn't be a problem to use FTP between your Xbox and PC... post the log from flash fxp if you need further assistance..

I think that's where my problem is. I can't change the addresses on my Xbox. Once I'm in the SysUtils area of my Evox dash, I can't save any of my changes. There's no Save & Exit option - my only choice is to exit.

easy fix change your PC's address to match your Xbox's then goto network connections right-click, properties, TCP/IP, select properties then enter the IP address.

I'm still not having any luck. There are some things that I need to have cleared up before I go on:

1.Do I have to have EvolutionX dash installed on the HDD just to ftp a file folder from my pc to the XBOX? I don't want to install it if I don't have to.

    2. If I don't need Evox installed, do I have to change network settings on the XBOX and then try to connect? I changed the IP address from 192.168.100.10 to 192.168.0.3. I changed the gateway to match the IP address on my pc: 192.168.0.4. Using both SmartFTP and FlashFXP were unsuccesful.

    Thanks

Try rebooting both devices to restart their network and then check to see if they will connect. By the way what dash are you using? if you are using Evox stay in the utilities menu sometimes I have run into a problem FTPing from the Evox main menu

The only dashboard I'm using is the M$ dash. I have Evox burnt to a cd-rw and it boots OK. Do I HAVE to have a different dash to ftp?

Yes, you will need to install a dash in order to have FTP capability... might I suggest Avalaunch it seems to be the most compatible dash but thats just my opinion...

Now I'm even more confused. Don't I have to ftp to my Xbox to install a new dash? Seems like a Catch-22

Sorry, but you told me that your Xbox was modded so I gave you instructions based off that info. Why did you think your Xbox was modded? There are plenty of tutorials on how to mod your Xbox here on this site, since you don't have a chip then you're looking at a softmod. Goto the Xbox software forum to get all the info that you will need..
