    hey,

I was wondering if, in order to copy an iso file to a dvd+r dl, I needed a special drive for this, or can I just use my regular dvd drive.

If it helps, my dvd+r dl is a Memorex 8.5gb.

The drive must be able to burn DL and the software to do it. Check the specs.

If you are going to spend $ on DL don't buy crap like Memorex

first off you need a burner to burn DVDs ....... a regular DVD-ROM is just a player that reads DVDs and plays them on computer or TV!

second..... Noqoilpi is correct about media! Don't use crappy media when burning. It's important to use good media so you won't run into playing problems down the road! here is a media guide for you:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Rule of thumb: buy media that is MADE IN JAPAN. Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, Fuji.... read the lable and make sure it says MIJ.
Verbatim is the only exception to the MIJ rule as it's made in Taiwan and is one ot the top notch media out there! and it's the only Taiwan media that I will buy to burn! Soooooooo, if you're going to use DL media buy Verbatim..... that's the best DL media out there right now. but remember..... you need a DVD burner! your
    DVD-ROM will not burn meida!
