Which should I use? I am able to get both in Verbatim brand. From what I have read the (-) will be compatible with all DVD players etc... but the 9+) may need bitset or booktyped or something like that to be compatible with some players. Can someone throw some advice my way on which is better and why? Thanks!! HB
What's your burner brand name and model#? Not all burners support booktyping. I booktype all my plus format media including dl's to dvd-rom. Those backups are very compatable and play in many stand alones. The +DL media: The price has finally come down to where I can start using them.
I do not use DVD DL discs, but it is my opinion that +R technology is superior to -R. As far as book-type, I am pretty sure you need to booktype DL Discs and as far as I know only +R media is capable of this.
From what I checked out on your burner, your burner is like my benq's. Plus format only with the dual layer media. I know the LG is capable of booktyping the plus media to dvd-rom. I do that using my benqs using dvd decrypter ISO read and ISO write. When you go to ISO write, There is a folder Icon to the right of the burn speed setting. Click on that folder/select LG tab/change for dvd +r dl media/new setting to dvd-rom/click change/click ok.
Hello again -Marlin-, Download VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/ It will tell you exactly what your burner supports. Only very recent drives (Latest Firmware) supports DVD-R DL. My NEC-3450a (Dell OEM) doesn't support it. Only DVD+R DL which I haven't even tried yet.
Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL for me. So far I've backed up 30 Verbatim DL with book type it as DVD-ROM successfully.
