I haven't read many good reviews on video capture cards under $500, and there's a reason why - you get what you pay for!
I just got my Pinnacle MovieStudio USB capture card which comes with Studio 8. First of all, my PC started freezing up as soon as I installed the drivers. There is a small section in their tech notes that says "When booting the PC with the device plugged in, it hangs". Now you tell me!!! Unbelievable that they would still sell this garbage with these significant bugs.
On top of that, they don't tell you that to make a one-hour video dvd, you have to "render" the mpeg which takes a whole day on the PC. (BTW, I have P4 2.53 Ghz 756MB RAM, 160GB HD.) And if you want anything that's not pixelated, you can only burn one hour of video per dvd. You can fit 2 hrs onto a dvd with compression, but it will look crappy. This $200 experiment is complete garbage. Do not buy.

    Yep. That's why I spent $800 CDN a Panasonic DMR-E50.
