Does anyone know if the ilo's that are in the stores now, has the latest software on them, or do you still have to do the up-grades to the new units. The local Walmart had these priced at $118.00 today. The Walmart website still has them listed at $149.67. I am trying to decide between the ilo and the Pioneer 220-S at $198.00. Anyone familar with both units, that could do a comparison.

    Thanks....Bo

I'm sure they have the newest firmware as the new ones I've seen at Walmart for $118 are manufactured in March 2005 and are model # DVDR05. (Not the DVDR04s that have quite a few reviews and threads about them on this and other sites.) I'm just wondering if anyone has done any hacking on one yet and if they have indeed solved some of the earlier problems that the ILOs were noted for.

Anyone out there got a new model they can write review on for us?

The R05 is made by Cyberhome, not LiteOn, hence no hack. Unless someone has a hack for the Cyberhome model line, there will be no hack for the R05.

Walmart has pulled the ilo DVD Recorder with the the Hard Drive off of the web-site. It dosen't say out of stock, it is not listed at all. Anyone know anything about this.

Just a guess but as Gtrman noted, the new DVDR05 models are made by Cyberhome and I'll bet they are running out of the units mfg by LiteOn. Maybe a change is coming in the mfg for the HD model too. ;>( I found 4 DVDR04s at a Walmart. Bought one and it rang up at the newer $118 price but out of 4 stores only one had the older units, the rest had only the DVDR05s.

AS Grtman said the DVDR05 is a Cyberhome and no hack is available. I bet the reason for the change is the hacking of the o4 and preassure on Wal Mart by the copy protection people. There is always the LiteOn, unless its pulled.

    Hi Everyone,
I just picked up an R04 from Walmart. Haven't even hooked it up yet.
How do I tell if it has the new up-dates or not.
Anyone heard why the Hard Drive model is not listed on the website?
Has it been discontinued? I have never seen one in any of the stores,
    just on line.

Use the setup button on the remote. The lower info bar should tell you the firmware Used. For info on the firmware, updates, downloads and hacks go to Grtman site http://www.ss3f.com/ilo. If an 04, I doubt if it has the latest update.

I got the R04 hooked up. Nothing works except the power button. When I press the menue botton or any of the others, I get no response at all.
The manual says to turn it on and press menue to get started, but nothing happens when I press it. Any ideas on what to do next.

    Thanks....Bo

I don't think the manual says to press menu, Its setup. If nothing is showing on the TV, make sure that the source is selected to the connections you are using.

Set-up is what I was talking about. I just typed in the wrong word, but neither of them does anything. When I power on it says Hello, on the front of the DVD, but nothing shows on the TV screen when I press any of the buttons. I will try again later.

    Thanks for the help....Bo

I an not sure what my problem is, but I need some help. I tried for three days to get the ilo to work, even went and bought a new TV. My old one didn't have all the bells and whistels. Still no luck. So I took it back and got the Pioneer. By the way Wallmart is replacing the 220-S model with the 231 model, same price. The local store had both.
Now back to my problem. The Pioneer is doing the same thing as the ilo. When I hook everything up and turn it on, nothing happens. I don't have any display on the TV screen. The DVD comes on and says Hello, and it shows to be changing channels on the display on the front of the DVD, but nothing on the TV.
Is it supposed to switch from the TV tuner to the DVD tuner, like a VCR does when it is turned on. Mine does not do that. When I power on the DVD nothing changes. I have tried different cables and both the front and back plugs.
This is my first time trying to use a DVD Recorder. Is there some major difference between them and the VCR's and DVD Players as for as the way they hook up to the TV?
I would sure appreciate any advice anyone might have on this.
    Thanks....BO

Sounds like your not selecting the correct input source on your tv. If you got the recorder hooked to it with the rf coax that is just as a pass through for tv. You need connect it with av then you got to select the input source on the tv. Mostly called aux or av input. Your tv remote will moste likely have a button to select the aux input called tv/vid or whatever depending on the make of tv. If not then use the channel buttons on the tv remote and go down past the lowest channel or up past the highest. You will then see L-1 and L-2 or aux-1 and so forth. Here is a diagram from ilo to look at http://www.ilohelp.com/image/diagram/Basic_installation.pdf The hookups are the same for most all brands.

    Thanks whompus,
I don't know why they couldn't have explained that in the ilo manual. It just said to hook up the wires, cables, etc., turn it on and press the setup button. It didn't say anything about the TV. I just assumed it worked like a VCR.
I got the basic setup done. I haven't tried recording yet.

    Thanks again for the help....Bo

I have an aside question about the old Ilo dvdr04. Mine only programs five channels at a time in the setup for recording. Has this changed in the newer Ilo dvdr05? Thanks.

    motorcycl,

It sounds to me like you are hooking the recorder up with the coax cables like a VCR. The coax connectors on the recorder are only a passthrough signal and you will not get the recorder screens hooked up that way. You will need to use the line out connectors (RCA yellow/red/white)and plug those into your TV Aux line in, if the TV has them. If not, you will need to get an RF Modulator (starting to sound like Marvin the Martian)from Radio Shack to convert the signal. I hope this helps.
