I search for this topic in the forum and couldnt find anything. i want to transfer some hi8 tapes to my pc; since they are already in digital format ( i think) all i need is a firewire card. I have found many in with large variations in price and i'm not sure if the brand matters. For example,

    http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=002464&cid=IO.313

i found this for $25CAD(including cable), but here

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10041076&catid=

its $70CAD (no cable but 3 ports). So again, i'm not sure exactly what card to get. any help would be appreciated

So far good luck but I'm sure there are others better but at higher prices. I have the pci card, a firewire card for my laptop, also a fm transmitter by Belkin all work good for me. also check out radio shack if possible they sell alot of Belkin also since they were bought their prices have dropped alot.

Brandname does not matter at all. Just make sure that it is compliant to IEEE1394b. No need to spend more than $15-$20.

Eh...oops sorry...I just saw that I wrote IEEE1394b, it should be IEEE1394a (the b version can cause problems when you use XP SP2).
