does it really matter what dvd burner you have for backups

i got as pioneer dvr-108 and was wondering if there is really a big difference between the backups from a pioneer 111 and any other dvd burner, are they smoother and play alot better or what?

ill admit that partially i reckon its the media, cos i only used 100% verbatims with the pioneer but imo EVERY other combo is hit and miss but outta a pack of 25 verbatims i have 25 fully working backups that require no tricks etc to get working

imo theres only one choice

 

I'm 100 % successful with a Hitachi 59DJ flashed with OPA 2.2 stealth. I burn with a Sony DRU-810a on Verbatim DVD+R DL.

 

yea i burnt nba live 2007 as my first back up seems to work fine

 

i used a nec4550 so far all 7 have worked fine on verbatim discs

 

Sounds good, I've got the same burner as you and am awaiting the arrival of my 360 so I didnt really want to have to shell out on a new dvd burner. I'll test burn Test Drive when it arrives with luck it shall work too.

What discs are you using?

 

it seems that as long as you have the media patch then you should be ok I used xtreme v2.1 and it came up with error after I reflashed woth v2.2 (which has greater media recognition) the same backup that didnt work earlier now worked pretty sweet I would still use verbs though just for quality but burner seems to be open now
