I have a cd/dvd recorder drive built into to my laptop. I was using it to burn dvd's for a few months with now problems. Now when I put in a burned cd to burn it doesn't even recongize that there is a disk there. I tried cleaning the lens and nothing. anyone have any ideas.

Yeah, it burned all types of blank dvd's and cd's a couple of weeks ago. It just started doing this. It also stops has errors when I try burning dvd's. I burned 2-3 hundred before and no problems.

I uninstalled nero express and then reinstalled it, I deleted incd, looked at firmware updates but it said there weren't any for the brand dvd burner I have. I don't know how to check aspi, or get the motherboard chip drivers. I still not that great working with computers.

sounds like time for proverbial Nero log... post LAST section of your logfile which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar

(the logfile is appended to by subsequent burns so the way to identify the sections is via these lines "*** NeroAPI, History File *** ======")

The problem is that I pluged in an external dvd burner, and have been using that fine, but I still want to use the burner in my laptop to burn cds, but neros history log only shows the logs from the external burner, which were all completed successfully.

successful logs are fine, they give a wealth of info, that's usually sufficient to pinpoint the problem(s)

But won't the successful log be talking about the other dvd burner, I have two and use the external one burn dvds, and don't use the internal one right now.

a i say, it doesn't matter, it'd probably be enough to get you sorted. your choice, all it can do is help you get burning sooner....

    @tripps11 -

    - too old, update to latest, 6.6.0.16

    - firmware is outdated, A105 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2036

    - i can see this is the external burner you were talking about so that question mark is fine

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - make sure to close down more programs prior to all burns to free up more memory

    - you're burning to outer edge of discs, if you use DVD Shrink, set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - hmmm, i wonder if those are genuine TY discs, TYG02 are faked a helluva lot

    - you need to make sure blank discs are in the drive BEFORE startig burning to allow Nero to detect the available speeds of the disc

    - you can't 'booktype' -R discs, only +R discs. change the booktype setting to auto in Nero/Recorder/Choose Recorder/Options

    - 4x is what most people recommend for movie burns

    - no mention of atapi drivers here, this should be resolved by following the DMA fix further up the reply..

The page for the firmware update is temporarily down, is there any other sites I can get the same upgrade from? I did everything else and my drive still won't read disks, so I am hoping that the firmware is the problem.

I was wondering, is the firmware different for my external burner than it would be for my internal one, and if so will updating the firmware for my external burner help any problems with my internal one? also what are cyclical redudancy errors, and how can I get around them?
