    Idiot, stupid, dummy i am.

When trying to overclock my PSP Slim to play an import .ISO, I bumped a wrong button on the M33-4 recovery menu and did a small reset on my PSP.
(setting the time, date and whatnot) It was no big deal but it deleted the custom XMB themes i had on there. So when I went to reinstall the XMB theme pack I already had on there my PSP freaked out.

Now when i turn it on i have no XMB at all and it shuts off. Now i know with the M33-4 custom firmware i can unbrick it...at least i'm lead to believe that. But i'm not sure how i get to the recoverey part to get it rolling. I need a little help i guess.

Yeah thank God it will go into recovery no problem...but not anything else. And what sucks is all the guides i'm reading so far have me do a hard reflash by putting something in my GAME folder. But without a XMB menu that doesn't help me.

I'll try your guide and let you know how it pans out.

    LOL
    good call

    yes i'm running M33-4. But it's Slim.

I guess if someone has the OEM .rco files from their slim i could just replace them and maybe getting it to work again? I can't believe i jacked this thing up like this. The XMB theme Pack went on no problem last time.

Oh well you can just download this here

and then download this here and rename it to 3.71.pbp

and put all of the 3 files together and toggle usb on your psp recovery menu and create a folder called RECOVERY in the GAME folder.

and put these 3 files in the RECOVERY folder you've created.

after that is done in your recovery menu press on where its says run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP.

and fallow on screen instructions and you should be on 3.71 M33

after that is done download this here to update to 3.71 M33-4

The last link for FW 3.71 says i'll lose all CFW and homebrew. And i don't have a Pandoras Battery handy. Should i not sweat it since it's an old oe FW?

You need the Official 3.71 firmware to have3.71 M33

so download the two things and then after all the file have been put together on the recovery folder and the 3.71 eboot is renamed to 3.71.pbp then run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP. on the recovery menu and u should have 3.71 M33

and after that is done...then do the 3.71 M33-4 update

I will be interested in knowing if that works. As far as I know the only way to recover from a semi-brick PSP SLIM is by using Pandora battery + Magic memory Stick.

I made the "RECOVERY" folder. I put all 3 flies in there. And I unzipped a file from "PSP_371_FW_UPDATE.RAR" renamed it 3.71.pbp

And added it together in the RECOVERY folder with "umodule.prx" & "EBOOT.PBP" from the first link. And when i go to boot from PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP.

    It says...
And then tries to turn on normally again...only to freeze and shut down.

Oh really...im sorry i didn't know that...should we let him try it aanyways..?

    @jookycola

are you sure you didn't rename it to 3.71.pbp.pbp

if not than i guess larry..you were right...im sorry...:(

    Hey Larry

If you have a semi bricked psp don't you think you could still create a pandora battery by putting the file from your guide here

and putting the eboot of it on your RECOVERY folder?

    Nope 3.71.pbp

but it wants to verifiy a file called "371.pbp" So i took out the dot from 3.71 and it actually progressed to this....

So hit X and it says now...

And well 5 minutes have passed and nothing is really happening
    LOL
No blinking on the MS led, or any other indication that it's doing anything. So i may need to call my pandory battery guy tomorrow and get this thing running right.

Well, the thing that sucks is i don't have a fat battery to make a pandora of my own. But i got a guy i met on craigslist locally that has a pandora battery and installed M33-4 for me for $20. He did an awesome job too.

I was just trying to avoid having to put out another $20 bucks.

I guess my next (desperate) question (LOL) would be logically this all happened when i went into the vsh folder>Resource Folder and then replaced the "topmenu_plugin.rco" file with a custom one. So logically if someone copied the oe "topmenu_plugin.rco" file from their PSP and emailed me or knew where to d'load one or something...in thereoy, it could be back up and running.
    Yes, no?

I only say this because in the Readme.txt that comes with the custom theme pack it say it's a good idea to back up the original files from the "Resource Folder" in case you brick it.

    Might be worth a try.
Either way fellas thank you for all the help so far.

We can't email you flash..its illegal..but you have to have your own flash0 parts or your psp will get messed up even worst...:)

But just use the file from larry's guide to convert your SLIM battery to pandora and you wont have to pay the 20 bucks.

just use the file that he says to download and put the eboot of it in your recovery folder....but only use it for the battery not the memory stick.

is that Larry's guide that you linked to that your talking about?
    Actually, Nevermind.

    I read it...but it says:
Without my XMB menu i can't even use this method, at least that's what it sounds like. Larry? any ideas?

    What did you do..?

If it just sits there with the green light on...then the only way to bring it back to life is with pandora.

Its a full brick but not a permanent brick...Phew..;)

Well at least..we tried to do all we could before you having to pay the 20 bucks..;)
