I am a NOOB, please forgive my ignorance. I have a Samsung HT-AS720S (HTIB). It has a Dolby Pro Logic IIx setting, there are 3 settings.. C-width 0-7; Dimension -7 - +7; and Panorama off/on, what are these and what do I want these on and when?

they are virtual surround effects that you can try out in DPLII to see if they enhance the listening experiance of your set-up in your particular room.
By description they probably give a more "spacial" or "wide" sound stage. You might find you don't like any of them, or they make a difference that you like to say a CD audio track, but not to TV listening and are therofore often not worth the hassle when swicthing between sound sources from the same input.
