I don't have a DVD Burner, and I don't know much about DVD-R, so I just need to know, if I can copy the DVD to my HDD, then copy that to a Data disk, take it to my friends house who has a DVD burner, and copy it there?

It seems logical, but I want to make sure ahead of time.

    Thanks!

If you have a DVD/ROM drive you can put the DVD on you HD but if you don't have a DVD burner and want to put the info on a CD-R it would take you about 4 to 5 or more CD-R's. Waste of time in my opinion. I would look into getting a DVD burner they are real cheap these days. Until you get a DVD burner you could just put a movie on you HD and watch it on your computer(if you have at least a DVD/ROM drive). That is what I use to do. Keep in mind it will take about 7Gigs, so you can fill up a HD real quick.

if you decide you'd rather keep them on your computer than buy a burner and burn them, you can change resolutions and bit rates, as well as convert to .avi and get a whole movie at 600-700 mb. converted back to dvd, though, this will always have inferior quality.

i see that everyone is dancing around the question that you asked and the answer is yes! you can, you can put the movie on a few cd's as data, what you have to do is split the movie into two or three parts, thain you can take the disks to your friends house and make a dvd, good luck happy burning have a nice day

Inferior as in grainy, lower-quality--resembling VHS or worse.

No kidding that it'll take you a long time. And if you use CD-RWs you might run into compatibility problems. A NEC 3550a burner is $20 after rebate at Tigerdirect.

Auslander is pointing out that anytime you convert one compression format to another or re-encode, you lose some quality. Especially if you do a double-conversion, i.e. DVD->Divx and then back to DVD later again.

Yes you can put them on some CD's but only if you have a way to get the DVD on your HD in the first place. Do you have a DVD/ROM drive if not you are out of luck.
You could bring your movie over and have your friend burn it for you. Depending on how fast his computer is he could rip the the movie on his HD in about an hour and then you could take your movie back home with you and he could burn it for you later.
Best option is, save up for a DVD burner.

you won't lose any quailty as data. and yes you do need a dvd rom, and a cd burner to do what you want to do also it would be faster for you if you just take the dvd to your friend's place

He said in a previous post he is 13 years old. If so, here's what I would do...

I would tell my parents if they did not give me an increase in my allowance, that I would consider unionizing for fair wages. Just joking. :)

Or better yet, ask your parents for a small loan. DVD burners can be used for presentations at school, and I'm sure other academic purposes. Heck, in two days you would know enough about burning DVD's that it would take a month to educate your parents!

As was previously mentioned, I would try to save up for a DVD burner. They are very inexpensive.

    Good luck!

Thanks, i'll just ask for one for x-mas lol.

Because my parents won't give me loan for anything, unless they have papers to see and stuff.

    Thanks though guys.

    Hey,

Smart parents, you will thank them one day :)

Yep, DVD burners are getting cheaper everyday.

They might even enjoy a few movies you burn for them !!!
