i have two 80gig. harddrives installed, yet when i go into bios, it doesn't detect the second one. what config should i use??
Open your case, make sure the first (primary) drive's jumper is set to Master, and the second drive is set to Slave. Don't use Cable Select. Set your BIOS to boot from CD to install fresh.
Ok, if you're going to run both hard drives off the same IDE cable...remove both drives from the system. Look along the edge where the IDE and power cables attach to the drives....you will see a section with a small jumper connected to some pins. You will also see on the label on top of the drive on how to set each drive is either a Master (primary) or Slave (secondary). Set your boot drive to Master, and the other to Slave. You have three IDE plugs on each IDE cable. Two close together, and one farther apart. Plug the farthest one into the IDE port on the motherboard, the port in the middle to the Second hard drive, and the last on the end to the First hard drive.
okay. i'll give it a kick when i get home... i guess i have both drives as slave then... dammmmm.....will i havto reinstall em? or reformat? or can i do this all thru BIOS?
First things first.....set the drives the way they need to be. If Windows is already installed on the first drive, the drive should boot the computer into Windows. If not, and the computer tells you there's no operating system...proceed with a new installation.
