I recently got a double layer dvd burner, but the program that I was using with my single layer dver burner still tries to compress the video, so that it can fit onto a single layer disc. Is there a software program that allow more than 4.7gb to be place on a disc; in other words work with double layer disc? If so please let me know, I am in need on a good program.

    Thanks,

    Hi,
Some of the new sony dvd couldn't read by Shrink as
well as Descrypter. I have downloaded the DVD Fab and
it work fine for the single layer dvd.
First I use the DVD Fab, then Shrink/Descrpter.
That was for the single layer only.

Now I have a DL sony DRU800A and have no clue how to
do the double layer when shrink/descrpter could'd
    handle the new Sony DVD.

Would appreciate very much if some one could give me
some tips how to do it.

    Thanks in advance

    Anthony

You can try running your ripped file through Shrink only set it to DVD9 and to rip iso to you HDD. Then you can burn the output iso file with ImgBurn, which is an updated ver of the Decrypter burning program, it will set the layer break. Here is a guide

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=55424

    Get Imgburn here

    http://www.imgburn.com

You can also do it the easy way which is to just use AnyDVD in the background with DVD Decrypter and then rip in iso read mode, open the output MDS file which contains the dvd info and layer break, the use iso write to burn the file. There is 21 day trial of AnyDVD

    http://www.slysoft.com

Also can use the free DVD43 in the background with Decrypter this is also a driver like AnyDVD which breaks encryption.

    Hi ARNIEBEAR,
    Thanks your reply.
I would like to stay with the 3 program that I familiar with
Dvd Fab, Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

Could I use any of the combination of the above soft ware
that I could burn Dvd to DL.
If it is workable, could you provide the steps of how to
    do it?

Is there any setting is different then what is now which is
single layer setting. Do I have to change any of setting in
any one of the soft ware I had to accommodate the DL?

    TIA

    Anthony

In order to stay within those three programs you will then have to rip the newer encrypted movies with DVDFab, which I believe only rips VOB files. Then use Shrink to convert these files to iso files and output to your HDD. Set the size to DVD9 in your preferences. If the disk does not have any of the Sony ARccOS, or puppetlock you can then just use Decrypter in iso read mode, open the MDS and then iso write mode, no need for Shrink or DVDFab. DVD Decrypter will do many of the new movies out there, in iso read mode. Where it has a problem is with puppetlock protection.

Arniebear is correct. To make it simple add AnyDVD to your tool arsenal and then all you have to do is use decrypter in iso read mode and then set decrypter to write in iso mode to the dl disk. 1:1 copy

If you want to save money in the near future you must invest in the best programs in the market. For me AnyDVD + CloneDVD2 was the final solution after a series of unfortunate events. Use quality media (Verbatim) and write at low speed (2,4 X).

    Thanks ARINEBEAR & GARMON,

For the Sony dvd with the new protection code,
Could I use the DVD Fab to write the file then
open Descrpter in file mode and read with it?

    TIA

    Hi Arinebear & Garmon,

What I meant was use Fab to read then use decrypter in
file mole to write to DL.

    @tonymui

Since I do not use FabDecrypter I can't help you there. I've burn't the few DL discs I've done with Nero and AnyDVD. One day you will break down and buy AnyDVD like almost everyone else here and you will have almost no problems. $34w/rebate, life time upgrades. If you smoke; less than a carton of cigs or about 2 cases of beer.

    Hi Garmoon,

Thanks your reply. I will keepn that in mind.
By the way what NERO version do I need.
I only have the one that came with the burner not
    the retail version.
    TIA

DVDFab Decrypter has only 1 mode to rip and that is file, DVD Decrypter only burns iso files. So you must change the VOB files that are ripped with DVDFab to iso, and you can only do that with Shrink. Yes you can use Nero to burn your ripped VOB files but that really is not the best program to use for dual layer burning. The best way is to use Decrypter or ImgBurn.

    Thanks ARniebear and Garmon,

Could I set the compression on the DVD Shrink to
DVD-9 8.5 gb instead of DVD-5 4.4 gb so that it will not
compress the dvd to the single layer.

What I am trying to do is to use the DVD Fab to rip the
Sony disk then use shrink (set to DVD-9 compression, which
I will use the DL disk to write later).

Do your guys think this may work?

    TIA

    Anthony

Yes just rip with DVDFab and then run the file through Shrink to convert to iso, use the DVD9 size so all it will do is convert and not compress. Send it to your HDD then burn it with DVD Decrypter at 2.4x. Decrypter will set the layer break.

if u have anydvd then use the built in ripper, it keeps the original layer break info where as dvdfab doesnt.

    Hi Arniebear and guys,

Thanks you quick reply, I am glad that I could
do it with Shrink by changing the size to DVD-9.

Is there any reason why I can't use/set the write speed
to 4x? My sony dru800a can write to 4x for both
Dl dvd-r and dvd+r rather 2.4x speed as you suggested?

    TIA

You can set the write speed to 4x if you want. My Plex will write at that speed to but I prefer the 2.4x, caution I guess. Plus I get no errors on the burn from Decrypter.
