I have Asus internal Sata DVD drives stored away and I know that these drives have mechanical parts, lubrication, motor, lens

How many times a year is it necessary to energize these drives to maintain good health of the mechanical parts, lubrication, lens?

I've been purchasing optical drives since they were first introduced, and I've used them vigorously, and when I say all I means dozens of them. I have never lubricated a single one of them and I have never had a single drive fail. As they got older I gave most of them away but I still have a couple of drives that are a good 20 years old and they still work.

I have a working cd drive in my 486.. Goldstar 8x dates Sep 1993.

I have worn out more dvd burners than most people have had proper home cooked dinners tho.. My old NEC 3550 (xbox disk burner.. remember kids.. GO4 and no more than 4x.. ok?) still burns disks fine but won't read them any more.
