Hello guys! I just converted a movie from DVD format to XVID with Auto Gordian Knot using its basic settings. The resolution of the original video was 720*480 which the converted video has a resolution of 592*256. Again, the original video was of 29.97 FPS which the converted one is of 23.97 FPS. Why this difference? How come the resolution and framerate went down when I didnt do any such setting? Will a lower framerate and resolution effect the video viewing in a normal television? Chao.
The DVD would have actually been 23.976fps, just with 3:2 pulldown flags to insert the extra frames/fields. As for the resolution; AutoGK would have selected it based on your output size. That together with the compressability, length, etc. of the source. The best way to keep quality is to not resize down, but that is only given a suitably high enough bitrate. With a lower bitrate you get better quality by resizing down.
