Hi, I live in Michigan and have cable thru Ch@rter communications. I am looking for a dbox or dreambox that would work in the states. I have not found any U.S. support forums for any dreambox cable tuners or starview tuners, Only UK and Ireland. Can someone please point me into the right direction on to purchase one that would work here and a support forum...thanks....ANY info is appreciated.

P.S. I am in an Apt and cant mount a dish and Im on the second level so Im hosed on Sattelite....otherwise Id think I would be fine ;(

ok maybe I made a mistake...5c encrytion is for anti recording purposes and I think it might be qam256 or hrc encryption on a scientific atlanta cable network

Hi I am in a situation of being in an apt that isnt facing the correct direction to use a standup sattelite on my upper balcony and my apts doesnt allow mounting of the sat dish to thier building. So I cant run sattelite and I will be here for a couple years.

I currently run Ch a rter Cable here in Michigan. I have an uncapped basic subscription. I do receive all digital signal but do not have a box. I am looking for a digital cable tuner box capable of receiving all or most channels.
Could anyone please point me to the right direction?

Is there a dreambox or starview the box, etc... that will suit my needs for digital cable?

I have seen several dreambox 500 with cable tuners but no support for them except Ireland and the U.K. scenes....I think there versions are pal and thier cable systems are way diffrent..I am frazzled atm...

Here is the only details I have seemed to gather about my cable

I receive my cable thru a coax

I read alot of people receiving some channels thru a qam256 tuner card.
    Hd channels are 5c demodulated
I beleive they still use Hrc encryption on a scientific atlanta cable system.
I called them to confirm this they said yes....I am not sure if I beleived that cause its outdated technology...especially for digital cable?

Please....any and all comments and advice will be appreciated.....thanks

here is a little info on the scientific atlanta cable system I found. I am not sure if this is outdated or up to date info?

    NEW SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA SYSTEMS

Some of the early S-A boxes used 6 dB only sync suppression (some of the 8500 models), and some of the 8550 boxes are Tri-mode systems. The three digit number after the model (such as 321) is a code which indicates the make of the descrambler in the unit. Apparently some of the newer S-A boxes use a technique called dropfield, and some of the newer 8600 and 8570 models use baseband methods.

Scientific-Atlanta systems transmit their FSK addressing data on 106.2 or 108.2 MHz. There are several programmable cubes that can activate these systems. On the newest 8600 systems the address data is hidden elsewhere, possibly the video blanking region.

Ok maybe Hrc is not encryption but the signal or frequency system?

heres the info I found on HRC:

TELEVISION FREQUENCY CHART The following chart lists frequency information for the "standard" carrier sets. In an HRC (Harmonically Related Carrier) system, all picture carrier frequencies are derived from a 6 MHz oscillator, so all channels except 5 and 6 will be 1.25 MHz lower than usual. Channels 5 and 6 will be 0.75 MHz HIGHER than usual. An IRC (Incrementally Related Carrier) system, all channels are at their normal frequency except for channels 5 and 6, which will be 2 MHz higher than usual.

Some older TV sets can't receive any channels except 5 and 6 on an HRC system, and can't receive channels 5 and 6 on an IRC system. This is also true of some cable converters. A few converters are set up to allow HRC or IRC operation but with channels 5 and 6 on different numbers -- 55 and 56, or 55 and 66.

Yes I too have been trying to read and find out more info on the Dreambox system working here in USA? My cable company is Cox. I am new but have been trying to do a lot of reading. I also see that there are a lot of UK support and trying to figure out USA system. From what I understand the DM 500C does work here in the US. Anyone else find out more info please hit me up. Thanks!

another thing Im wondering is that the dreamboxs have dvb tuners? I thought it would have to have a atsc tuner to work in the U.S. right?
