When you get your dreambox, load an appropiate image, then hook it up to your sat dish and broadband connection.(Google for whatever your not sure of) Whichever subscription server you sign up to will provide all the info on how to set up the c line.

I don't get this at all, i'm getting more confused as i read about it. Where am i supposed to subscribe to? shy or somewhere on the net? and i still don't understand at all what c line is. I've already tried googling but there's too many sites for me to know what to click on.

Google "cccam card sharing" A c line is a username and password which allows you connect your dreambox to a card sharing service to decrypt the Shy channels.

take the standard situation. you have a sky box, sky dish, sky card. so the dreambox replaces the sky box. you can put your sky card in your dreambox and connect the dreambox to your router using a network cable. you can connect a further dreambox upstairs, in the garage (whereever) and connect all of them to your router using network cables. now you have a network setup with multiple boxes all connected to your router. only one of the boxes has the sky card in it. this box is called the server. all the other boxes are called clients. the client must connect to the server to receive the necessary decryption information so that the client box can open all the channels that the server box (which has a card in it) has paid for. so simply put all boxes in your network can open all the channels that your card is subscribed to even though only one box in fact has a card in it. so this means that the client box must be able to talk to the server box to get the decryption information. This is the CLine and simply this is C: IPaddress_of_server_box username password. When the server box receives a request from the client it checks the clients username and password (this is written in an F line in the server box). If the username and password in the clients client matches the servers username and password then the server passes the decryption information to the client and the clients channels open up. i can't make it any easier than that

you can connect the boxes to your broadband router (wirelessly ) by using devices called homeplugs or la fonera ,there are a few devices out there but homeplugs work very well. if you have a sub and a share set up in your home you can then if you like setup an external share to people in other houses (if you wish ) or forget the sub and pay for a cline from a payserver (but i would suggest you get your own sub ) there is a link in my signature area all about this topic titled cs ,click on it for more info . and fintann has made a few excellent post detailing the various dreamboxes and their specs so you should read those .i wouldnt worry about c or f lines just yet as you need to get set up first .

Fuerte, agreed. I'm slowly putting together basic posts in the hope that with all of them combined ddp will allow a stickie so that rather than answering the same questions every day we can just point to a stickie. Piopat, would you mind putting together a post on how to connect a dreambox wirelessly (please take into account all dreambox versions) as USB has allowed new wireless options. Fuerte, would you be interested in covering for example the CAM side of things, such as EVOCAMD, MGCAMD, OSCAM. CCCAM, NEWCS. If you dont know all the options just say so. There are members with knowledge of what any of us don't know. Bit by bit we can put together a complete picture for users. On a basic level I see the following steps
1/ How to select a box
2/ How to flash a box
    3/ What emualtor to choose
4/ How to use that emualtor
5/ How to sort TV guide (bouquets etc...)
6/ What are the different types of cards
Here again I am open to ideas. I don't mention external card readers or external hard disks. Love to hear your views and the many excellent afterdawn users views

Fintan, Do you think it might be a good idea to do just a basic guide, advising people on how to use one box, one cam etc.

For instance the guide might be for a DM500 box using 1 image, and Ccam, and how to go from start to finish with just that system. When I started trying to find out how to do this, I found all the options more bewildering, when all I wanted to do was basically get something up and running.

I appreciate that people will have different preferences and requirements but I think that if the basic guide was available to get people up and running they could decide where to go from there.

Thanks for your help with this by the way, I think I have managed to get it up and almost running (just have to do the C line bit!).

i would be happy to set up a thread detailing how to set up a single box say a dm 500s for use with a cline, and then on to adding a second box etc .

SG8, I think you are spot on. It took me ages to waft through all the possibilities until my head was totally done in. Your right it would simplify if you simply took one working example and afterwards we can digress from there. Piopat, it would be a great help if you could do what you suggest. Without doubt all the information is contained within afterdawn but its spread over so many threads of significant length that its difficult to get at what you really need. Appreciate the help guys

Reswob and SG8, I don't want to sound like I know more than I know, but having played with this for some years I do now forget how hard it is to get off the ground. Thats why I think its sometimes better if the newbie comes up with the guide as the pain and torment I have gone through is long past and means that I forget some basic steps that ye guys have staring straight at ye. I think it would be great if ye put it from your perspective and I will help in any way I can. Most important is that it is understood and the people who understand best are those who have just recently surmounted all the difficulties. Its all fine and good for me to think its easy (it is now, but it most certainly wasn't a few years ago) so its really good to see it though a different set of eyes.

im sure all the guys on here including my self are happy to help and answer as many questions as we can . all we ask is that people atleast read through the various posts and threads and try to find or learn what they need before posting a question allready answered many times,i know only to well it can be daunting starting out and we all had to start somewhere. feel free to ask any questions guys and we will try and help you but you also need to check first before posting that the question has not been asked and answered . when i say this i mean like the nagra3 situation ,we had lots of posts with the same questions despite the fact that mickah had set up a detailed thread discussing nagra 3/the areas affected/ and the sollutions or lack there of ,so please read the posts and threads guys and if your stuck please ask we will be glad to help if we can.

Right then, I have a quick one, have managed to flash the box (DM500S) with the image (Nabilo Darkstar II), got to download the cams (CCAM2.1.3) but was trying to get CCAM2.1.4 but this does not appear to be on the list of cams available.

Can I input it manually or should it be on the list of available cams ?

Or is there an image available with 2.1.4 already in it?

you dont need cccam 2.1.4 as yet mate ,cccam 2.1.3 will work fine for use with a sly card no probs . and will work as both a server and client no need for newcs or anything else .
