Hi. I sometimes play my DVD on my PC. But last night it won't play. The computer doesn't even recognize that there is a DVD (this is a retail DVD) in the tray. What is going on? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having a similer problem but only with certain discs, all of them are imported from Asia. they are all-region discs and work great in my DVD players hooked up to my TVs.

the really odd thing is that they worked in my computer when I first got them, then without changing anything on my computer (win update did download and install a install shield update tho) they suddenly stopped working.

I followed the guide on the top of this forum, uninstalled my codecs (most of em, I missed a few) and installed the codecs listed. that made 4 of the 7 problem discs work until the next morning (compter was not even turned off overnight) when they all stopped working again except one that has been good the whole time. any disc I bought in the USA works fine as well as several others imported from the same place as these 7.

I have a sony DW D18A dual layer multi format DVD RW drive that has played everything up until now.

the computer gives me one of two errors:
    1. it says the DVD is corrupted or using a format Windows doesn't recognise.
    2. it acts like there just isn't a disc in it. it will even tell me to insert a disc.
which error I get depends on which disc I use. the same disc always gives the same error.

is there anything I can do? some one please help me.
