Hi all, I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FRV35 notebook computer and I recently encountered a problem. My drive will not read CD's of any kind, Burned Audio, Original Audiao, Burned Software, or Original Software, or burn cd's but it reads and burns all DVD's fine! I've talked to many people and they say it's usually the opposite, where it reads CD's not DVD's. I've taken it to Best Buy and they have no idea what's wrong, so I'm hoping you do. Thank You in advance for any help, Burner413
DVD Burners have 2 lasers, one for CD's and the other for DVD's, and from what you've posted the drive sounds faulty
Before doing anything drastic, try this: In your device manager, right click on your burner, and click "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install a new driver for you. Good luck! Let us know how it goes...............
Hey, Thanks for the tips, I have tried unintall/reinstalling the drive but with no luck. If my drive if faulty, what do i need to do to get it to work? Thanks again, Burner413
If it's faulty, about all you can do, is get a new one. New dvd burners can be bought online for under $40. Not worth trying to get one repaired.......... Look at these sites. http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.newegg.com http://www.meritline.com Good luck!
