Hello all, thanks in advance for any help given. I have a
HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B model DVDRW drive. Basically I can put in any dvd and it plays, rips, and burns with no problems. The problem comes in when I put in any dvd that is a copy. I use verbatim dvd+r and it will read the disk, the window usually pops up asking what I would like windows to do, if I click ok to open windows media player, the computer locks up and I have to power down the computer. I can also click cancel and open imgburn and try to read and it says disk is empty and then the program stops responding. In either situation the drive stops responding and will not open, I have to use a pin to manually open the drive or power down the computer and startup again then the drive starts responding again and works great till I put in a burned dvd. I am sure more info will be needed to troubleshoot but dont know what that would be so please ask and will give all info that would be needed. Thanks again.

Sorry if this is a double post, couldnt figure out how to edit post. I also noticed that when I put in a burned dvd, my drive stops responding and when I go to device manager, the drive completely disappears, then when I power down (cant shutdown, have to hold down the power button)and turn back on, it is always back.

Well after a ton of trial and error, I finally replaced the drive and now it seems to be working. If a mod comes across this thread please close it. Thanks.
